Dorothea Rockburne’s current project, Homage to Colin
Powell, is a 41’ x 16’ mural commissioned by the
Foundation
for Art and Preservation in Embassies. This large-scale public
work depicts the position of the Milky Way and it’s constellations
in the sky over Jamaica on Colin Powell’s birth night. Currently,
this mural is being painted at the Queens
Museum of Art where visitors can observe Ms. Rockburne and the
muralist team of Evergreene Architectural Arts, Inc. in the process
of creating this unique work. This Fall (2009), Homage to Colin
Powell will be transported and installed in the U.S. Embassy
in Kingston, Jamaica. |
